In the last century the two major world powers had experienced periods of "dry law" - a time when the country has officially banned the sale and consumption of alcohol in any form. What were the goals, methods of implementation and impact of this project in the Soviet Union and the United States?

"Prohibition" in the US

The United States has experienced the "dry law" in the period from 1920 to 1933. During this time, the authorities hoped to achieve the final victory of morality, and health, to establish a general Protestant values. Within the framework of the law could not produce, sell or transport alcohol, while private storage and drinking hard liquor is not prohibited.

As is known, the "forbidden fruit is sweet", and in conjunction with the existing differences with respect to the decree, the campaign was doomed to failure. For thirteen years of "dry law" in America there was a lot of mafia groups involved in the illegal production and smuggling of alcoholic beverages. Failure to comply with the rules and associated with a high level of corruption in government and police circles. Overall, however, the campaign was a success - the total alcohol consumption in the country has decreased almost by half.

The anti-alcohol campaign in the USSR

In the Soviet Union the "dry law" lasted much longer than in the US, and repeatedly suspended. The idea of universal sobriety Soviet government sought to implement the five anti-alcohol campaigns.

The first campaign was a logical continuation of the fight against alcoholism, started even when the tsarist government. The biggest campaign took place at sunset of the Soviet state - then indeed been taken strict measures to restrict the production and drinking alcohol for the first time there was a decrease of revenues from alcohol.

Despite the fact that in the Russian regulations are not properly respected in the country significantly decreased mortality and decreased officially registered sales of spirits. Nevertheless, the Russian mass consciousness perceived "prohibition" as an infringement of the rights of the common people, so many have sought to organize the clandestine manufacture of moonshine in St. Petersburg, Moscow and other cities, the illegal sale of moonshine.

"Prohibition" in the Soviet Union and the United States has caused a mixed reaction from the population, and only provoked the growth of illegal sale and use of alcohol. Fortunately, you can easily buy moonshine in St. Petersburg, and to do this it is best to store CHZDA!
